Designed by Hugh Broughton Architects and Pearce+ with artists Ella Goode and Nicky Kent. It is an inflatable capsule for life on Mars, designed for two astronauts

In the movie The Martian, astronaut Mark Watney lives for more than a year in an inflatable module on Mars, grows potatoes in it and fully provides himself with everything he needs. But this is a movie, but how is this possible in reality? Ella Good and Nicki Kent decided to test this in practice and came up with an inflatable habitation module for life on Mars. jpg” />
It stands on the waterfront in Bristol next to the M Shed Museum and is a temporary housing concept for two astronauts. The Martian Home project was the result of seven years of research. “We are talking about moving to Mars, but we are thinking about life here on Earth, wondering how we live now and how we will live in the future,” say project authors Ella Good and Nicky Kent. “Our future is yet is not defined, and each of us can take part in its formation. We hope that people can use some of the ideas in their daily lives.”
Hugh Broughton Architects and Pearce+, who had previously developed research centers in Antarctica and brought their experience in this area to this project, took on the implementation of the prototype of the Mars House. The module is a golden inflatable structure, standing on a sea container, which serves as the underground part of the Martian home here.
If it were built on Mars, then the ground-based inflatable section would house living quarters and a hydroponics farm. As conceived by the authors of the project, it would be filled with Martian rocks – regolith – to protect the astronauts from the planet's radiation. Sleeping areas and bathrooms would be in the underground part of the building. Each of these two-seat capsules can be connected to other modules, forming an entire Martian settlement. -content/uploads/2022/08/81af7ac45ba148ac6345d6d98ec6567b.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ class=”lazy-image__image _align-center” data-v-64ca9b5a=”1″ alt=”An inflatable appeared on the Bristol waterfront Martian home” />
