Good news for all lovers of contemporary art and architecture! A new art gallery has opened in the Kistefos art park near Oslo, which has been talked about since 2015. It was then that the studio Bjarke Ingels (Bjarke Ingels) BIG unveiled its plans for the construction of an unusual exhibition space, which will be located on the bridge and will have an original swirling shape. And now the project is finished and The Twist art gallery is accepting its first visitors. uploads/2022/05/1cfe33d9360761a6722e98a3edc7e6f4.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ class=”lazy-image__image _align-center” data-v-64ca9b5a=”1″ alt=”Art gallery on the bridge designed by the studio BIG (photo 2)” />
The bridge spanned the Randselva River, which flows through the territory of the Kistefos Art Park, a real open-air museum. It was founded in the 1990s and houses the work of such famous contemporary masters as Anish Kapoor, Olafur Eliasson, Fernando Botero and others. The new exhibition space will not only allow display works indoors, but will also improve park navigation. 2022/05/e3531b19fad91e5cef6ac47fb12cb292.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ class=”lazy-image__image _align-center” data-v-64ca9b5a=”1″ alt=”Art gallery on the bridge designed by BIG ( photo 5)” />
The structure of the bridge is made of aluminum, the kink in the center performs not only an aesthetic function, but is also necessary in order to level the different heights of the river banks. “Kistefos is a sculpture park. Placing part of it on the bridge was a great idea. You don't just go to the museum, then you walk in the park, then you come back home, but you come here in the process of walking. Everything happens very organically,” says the author of the project.
The south side of The Twist is a two-level space with a monolithic entrance and without windows, which is used for the exhibition of paintings and other art objects, while the north side of the building is solved in a completely opposite way. This is a one-story gallery with panoramic windows from which you can admire the surrounding landscapes and the rapid flow of the river.
