In China, an unusual bridge has appeared on the picturesque Yuandang Lake between Jiangsu Province and Shanghai. It combines the functions of a bridge, a public space and a park. This unusual project is the work of Brearley Architects & Urbanists (BAU), a “hybrid” building 586 meters long, connects the two regions of the country, allowing residents to get about their household chores to the previously inaccessible opposite shore.
The bridge is six meters wide. Functionally, it is divided into three sections – bicycle, pedestrian and plant. Exactly in the middle there is a wide platform – there is a sculptural pavilion in which, with the help of mathematical modeling, a perforated structure was created, where children play with joy. Thus, the bridge ceases to be a means of transportation from point A to point B, but turns into a multifunctional urban space.
