For several years now, decorator Zhenya Zhdanova has been carefully restoring the house and garden of the Russian scientist, agronomist and collector Nikolai Rakitsky in Tarusa, and we are closely following this process on her social networks. And now, finally, great news: the house-museum and the arboretum garden have opened to the public and have already received the first visitors. The first tour was conducted by the editor-in-chief of ELLE DECORATION Alexey Dorozhkin.

Nikolai Rakitsky is a well-known Russian scientist, agronomist, and collector. In 1929, he founded an experimental arboretum garden in Tarusa, where he was engaged in the acclimatization of plants from other climatic zones. The site contains a unique collection of rare exotic plants.
Rumeli pine, Amur lilac, Far Eastern actinidia, Chinese magnolia vine, maack euonymus and 16 varieties of jasmine – these are just a small part of the agronomist's unique collection.
Among other hobbies of Nikolai Rakitsky was art. In 1963, on his initiative, the Tarusa Art Gallery was established, to which he donated over 200 paintings. Among them are works by Polenov, Aivazovsky, Borisov-Musatov, Kustodiev, Vrubel, Rzhevskaya, works by old masters, a collection of antique porcelain, glass and lace. .jpg” />
Today, the arboretum garden and the house-museum of Rakitsky are an object of cultural heritage of regional significance. Zhenya Zhdanova is actively reviving this place as the new cultural center of Tarusa. It hosts concerts, meetings, and now excursions. From June 1it is planned to hold thematic lectures on the history of crafts and crafts, the art of decoration, fashion and style, as well as a whole cycle of author's creative master classes developed together with Tarusa artists, artisans and designers. Here you can learn how to create herbariums, decorative panels and tapestries from herbs and flowers, decor items for the garden using the macrame technique, fashionable jewelry made from natural materials, learn the secrets of working with mosaics using the Tarusa embroidery technique, or even find yourself in a pop-up workshop of a flower fairy or on lectures on the art of table setting and the traditions of the manor feast.
