The Londoner Hotel has opened in Leicester Square, London. Visiting it is like going to a great production.

The Londoner is a project of the famous international bureau Yabu Pushelberg, behind which are architects and designers George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg. They often make hotel interiors, and every time they try to fit the object into the context. In this case, the hotel is located in Leicester Square, a legendary place for London. The area and the surrounding streets are called Theatreland, “Land of the theater”, and this is a real theater Mecca of the British capital. There are all the famous theaters (fifty!) And cinemas. So the theme of scenography, productions, games, acting has become the main one for designers.

The lobby is made in the spirit of a workshop in which scenery is made.

The interior of one of the bars is “staged” in the manner of the stage: the bar serves as a stage, the busts in the windows play their role. But the most spectacular is the wall with wavy carved panels imitating a curtain.

The walls of the second bar are decorated with perforations with built-in lighting. The drawing is similar to sketches depicting the characters of a future play.

And one of the lounges, due to the abundance of mirrors and glamorous furniture, vividly resembles a dressing room.

Lighting plays an important role in shaping the image. There is little natural light, but there is just a lot of staged, theatrical light. It is used in all public areas.

The hotel occupies a giant 16-storey building, and the architects deliberately “cut” the interior space into many chamber zones. Thus, the impression of a huge space is hidden from the guests, and the pressing force of a large space leaves.

The designers say they aimed to create a captivating, intriguing interior that, like any good production, would keep the viewer on their toes. And they succeeded!

The rooms, decorated in the usual hotel style, are conceived as a respite, a kind of “intermission”.
