The Dutch bureau MVRDV has developed a project for a two-level park with green roofs for cultural centers, where numerous residents and employees of the Shanghai business district can find a place to relax
Dutch bureau MVRDV won the design competition for Zhangjiang Future Park in Pudong business and financial district of Shanghai. The future space with an area of 100 thousand square meters will include a library, an art complex, an amphitheater and a sports center, as well as a public park.
The future 56,000 square meter park is being created primarily as part of the Pudong innovation district, where more than one hundred thousand employees of national and international companies looking for a place to stay live and work. The project takes into account the existing natural landscape, in particular – the Huangpu River flowing through the park, which will become the final element of the entire space.
A distinctive feature of the project will be active green roofs of buildings that form the second level of the park. Artificial hills, together with pedestrian bridges, form beautiful panoramic views of the city, as well as additional surfaces for picnics and recreation. The Green Roofs program offers not only aesthetic but also functional benefits: storm water, clean air, noise reduction and thermal insulation.
