Station designed by Zaha Hadid appeared near Naples

Napoli Afragola Station became Zaha Hadid's last lifetime project

Located in the town of Afragol, 12 km from Afragol the new transport hub should connect the southern regions of Italy with the north of the country and with the whole of Europe. As conceived by the architects, Napoli Afragola station will open the “gateway to the south of Italy”: namely, it will become a key interchange hub for four high-speed railway lines connecting the south and north of the Apennine Peninsula.

Today, the station serves about 10,000 passengers daily , but upon completion of the second stage of construction, it will receive three times as many passengers. The construction tender was won by Zaha Hadid's bureau back in 2003, but work only began in 2015. The architects did not deviate from the usual forms and used recognizable smooth lines and curved surfaces from ready-made steel modules. The four-level complex, 400 meters long, occupies 3 hectares, and houses offices, shops and the station itself. There are parking facilities nearby.

They promise to complete the station by 2022.
