In the design of the temple complex, all kinds of arts are used: here you can see rich stained-glass windows, mosaics, sculpture, ceramics, and painting. Chief architect and author of the project – D.M. Smirnov, who had previously been engaged in church architecture, having designed the Church of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church on Lubyanka.

The main temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was built in the Russian-Byzantine style, the building was erected from reinforced concrete structures lined with copper-plated panels. According to the architect, a special electroplating technology was used for facing: “This is a rather rare technology. Usually [with its help] they make small pieces of jewelry, but here a large volume is made.

The steps of the temple are made from melted down trophy weapons of the Wehrmacht – pistols, machine guns, ammunition, individual elements of artillery and armored weapons stored in warehouses , which did not have a museum and historical value.

The bells for the bell tower were cast at the Voronezh foundry. There are 18 bells in total: the largest one weighs 10 tons, and the smallest one weighs 8 kg.

The temple is two-tiered. The lower part is finished with ceramics and painted with Gzhel ornaments. The plots decorating the walls are classical: the baptism of Prince Vladimir, the baptism of the Lord and the baptism of Russia. The ornament of the floor is made in the technique of Florentine mosaic of marble, neurite and onyx, includes brass inserts. The lower temple is lit only by candles and intricate chandeliers with blue lights. There is also a baptismal font, the floor of which is laid out in the style of antique baths with multi-colored mosaics. wp-content/uploads/2022/09/09e9cb59286830c1f2963bd440cbe8e3.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ class=”lazy-image__image _align-center” data-v-64ca9b5a=”1″ alt=”Temple 6 billion rubles : what one of the most expensive cathedrals in the country looks like” />

The upper part surprises with its scale. A huge golden sculpture of Christ on an azure background above the altar is the first thing that immediately catches the eye. As if floating in the air, it is made of copper and covered with gold leaf. On both sides of it there are frescoes and mosaics with scenes from the Holy Scriptures and events of national history. The stained-glass windows on the arches weakly transmit light, and twilight reigns in the temple.
