Festival ideologist Igor Shulinskiy

The ideologist of the festival, Igor Shulinsky, told why the idea of such a review arose in 2006, when the first DESIGN ACT happened: “We wanted to tell people that everything that surrounds us – clothes, buses, planes – everything is design. But the design – it's not just a wrapper, it's our vision, our philosophy, our existence. 10 years ago we invited foreign participants, we had up to 50 and sometimes up to 100 guests from different countries who shared their experience. But there are things that cannot be raised without the state. And now I can accurately formulate that if earlier we paid attention to the word “design”, now we need to pay attention to the word “act”. DESIGN ACT should become a labor exchange where the customer finds people ready to fulfill his order, and those who are talented designers from different parts of our country should find a platform where they can offer their talent to the country and those large corporations that need them, because that design – a civil matter. And today the first step has been taken towards the dream that we wanted to realize 10 years ago.

Denis Kravchenko at the DA press conference

The relevance of holding an event dedicated to industrial design was noted by the initiator and co-organizer of the event, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Bureau of the Supreme Council of “United Russia” Denis Kravchenko: “We held an open competition, which was supported by leading Russian companies – Rosatom, Roskosmos, USC, UAC and other companies. It was a very exciting competition.  More than 500 applications were submitted, of which about 185 were selected, and even fewer made it to the final. It is right that today's event was attended by representatives of business, government and the designers themselves.

DesignAct 2022 press conference

Industrial design surrounds us everywhere, makes our life interesting and attractive. It is industrial designers who have always looked into the future and this is well shown at exhibitions. Here you can see the great past of Soviet industrial design and no less great, I am sure, the future of this direction. Everything that we produce and supply to foreign markets requires a responsible approach not only to how it works, but also to how it looks.

"It is important that government, business, designers, who really need each other today, met on the site this year. Revision — a very important word in the name of the festival, it is necessary to find all talented designers who want to benefit the country, unite them, set a vector and make sure that they are in demand. There is a lot of talk about the fact that business sees designers and is ready to work, but this is not enough, the third party is also important — support of the authorities at the legislative level, so that the solutions found at the festival are quickly translated into action. Next step — “Design Act. Mobilization», — said Roman Karmanov, General Director of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, which supported the current festival and the Open Industrial Design Competition as part of it. The festival is supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
