The Brescia DnD factory has been making doorknobs for over half a century. Novelties-22 are bright and spectacular, designed by rising star Elena Salmistraro.
The DnD brand is a family business with almost 50 years of history. The factory produces door handles, including designer ones. When designer Giulio Iacchetti became its art director, the company began to attract young talents to cooperate. Among them is Elena Salmistraro, who has already managed to earn a reputation as the main Italian storyteller from design.
Whatever Elena takes, be it furniture or doorknobs, they turn out to be bright, unbanal, fantastic. For DnD, she designed two models included in the new collection – Cristalide and Dune. They are completely different, but there is a unifying element – porcelain inserts, the designer's favorite material.
Cristalide is a creative reimagining of the classic doorknob. Although only the form reminds of its predecessor. But the design, of course, is completely different. Porcelain inserts are decorated with a bright pattern. This is a stylization of patterns on the wings of a butterfly, after which the model is named.
Dune looks even more interesting. The relief on porcelain resembles the waves of sand on the dunes, which are driven by the wind. Very beautiful gamma: turquoise, tea rose and matte white.
Elena says that designing door handles was even more difficult than, for example, chairs. It was necessary to take into account both the ergonomics of the human hand and the engineering component, and, of course, the handle should work in an ensemble with the design of the door. Cristalide and Dune – obviously, from those details that not only meet all the criteria, but they themselves set the image.
