Soler Orozco Arquitectos and architect Javier Sanchez designed an unusual spa for a country villa in Mexico

50 kilometers from Mexico City, right in the dense Mexican jungle, there is a private villa, the owner of which wanted to build a separate spa center for himself. The solution was found almost immediately – it was prompted by the hilly terrain on which the house was built. They came up with a new building to disguise as a hill! The building, designed by Soler Orozco Arquitectos and architect Javier Sánchez, is shaped like a truncated cone with a spectacular skylight on the roof. “Our client is an athlete, he has long wanted to have his own spa center in order to recover mentally and physically after training and competition”, say the authors of the project.
The building of the spa center has the shape of a hill. Part of the slope is covered with a stone embankment, and windows and doors are cut in the left openings. A staircase leads to the top of the “hill” – there is a spacious outdoor terrace. /uploads/2022/05/c20eff6e60c573084bdb9006781c5834.jpg” width=”728″ height=”485″ class=”lazy-image__image _align-center” data-v-64ca9b5a=”1″ alt=”Unusual spa in Mexico, hidden inside the hill” />
Inside, the spa has a radial layout. The premises are equipped with a gym, massage room, sauna and swimming pool. And in the center of the task, the architects decided to leave an empty space resembling a sanctuary: right under the skylight in the roof, the owner placed a Mexican statue that looks especially impressive under the falling sun.
In the interiors of the spa, Soler Orozco Arquitectos designers used the same material as on the outside: concrete. The stuccoed concrete walls are paired well with the brick floors and dark wood doors. Lighting plays a special role in the spa: built-in lights and sconces give the space a peaceful, restful and relaxing character – just what you need after intense workouts!
